Frequently asked questions
Quick answers before you book. Still unsure? Call or request a quote.
What’s the difference between Stage 1, 2 and 3?
Stage 1 is software-only on a standard car. Stage 2 assumes supporting hardware (intake, exhaust, cooling, etc.). Stage 3 is for heavily modified or high-power builds and is quoted after we see the full spec.
How long does a remap take?
Most Stage 1 visits are around 1–2 hours including checks, depending on ECU access and any faults found. Complex or Stage 3 work can take longer and may need a return visit.
Do you come to me or do I bring the car?
We offer mobile and workshop-style appointments. Priority coverage includes Sussex, the Midlands and surrounding areas, with wider UK travel by arrangement. Confirm location when you enquire.
Is remapping legal and will it pass an MOT?
Performance software that keeps the vehicle road-legal and emissions-compliant for its use is widely used. Changes that disable emissions systems may not be legal for road use in the UK. We advise honestly per vehicle and intended use — MOT outcome also depends on the rest of the car’s condition.
What about manufacturer warranty and insurance?
A remap can affect manufacturer warranty decisions and must be declared to your insurer where required. We recommend checking with your insurer before work. We do not claim “no impact” on every policy or warranty.
Can the car be returned to stock?
In most cases we can return the ECU to a stock or original calibration if we have a valid original read or stock file for that ECU. Ask when booking if reverse-to-stock is important to you.
What do you need from me before the visit?
Make, model, year, engine, mileage, registration if useful, any existing modifications, and your goals (power, economy, towing, daily drive). Mention fault lights or recent repairs so we can plan checks first.
What’s included in the stage price?
Diagnostic health checks appropriate to the job, the calibration work agreed, and basic aftercare guidance. Parts, hardware, or extra add-ons are priced separately (see the add-ons list).
Are EGR / DPF / AdBlue options road-legal?
Disabling emissions equipment is often not legal for vehicles used on public roads in the UK. These options are discussed only where appropriate for the customer’s stated use. You remain responsible for how the vehicle is used and presented for test.
I’m a trade remapper — is this the right page?
This page is for retail customers booking Apex remapping on their vehicle. Trade partners who need files only should use the dealer ECU file portal (credits, Stage maps and add-ons for workshops).
